A police officer who was on leave has died in Vancouver, Washington, after being shot by his fellow cop who mistook him for a robbery suspect.
On Saturday night, a Clark County deputy gunned down Donald Sahota, 52, while pursuing a suspected armed robber. The armed robbery occurred at a Chevron at 9810 NE 117th Avenue on January 29.

The assailant demanded money while brandishing a gun at the worker. The suspect escaped in a dark-coloured Mercedes that had been stolen.
Police pursued the robbery suspect, who abandoned his vehicle after spike strips were successfully used to stop the car.
The robbery suspect approached Sahota’s home on foot. He began pounding on the front door, pleading for assistance and claiming he’d been involved in a car accident.
The off-duty officer’s wife contacted the police and recounted the scenario before her husband cop stepped outside to confront the robbery suspect. Sahota left his house and sought to apprehend the culprit, who retaliated with violence.
When Sahota mishandled his gun, the robbery suspect stabbed him many times before breaking into his residence.
Clark County officers arrived on the scene as Sahota collected his handgun and attempted to run into his residence. The County Deputy Sheriff fired several rounds, injuring Officer Sahota, thinking he was the robbery culprit.
Before responding authorities could confirm that Sahota was the homeowner and not the supposed robbery culprit, he fell on his front porch. He was taken to the hospital but passed on as a result of the gunshot wounds.
The suspect yielded to authorities without violence shortly afterwards.
An explanation of why Sahota was gunned has yet to be established and investigations have commenced into the use of excessive force by the Clark County Deputy Sheriff.
