Senator Kamala Harris is ready to face lies and distractions from her political opponents. She said prepared to fight a racist conspiracy theory that she is not eligible to be vice president.

“They are going to get involved in lies, they are going to get involved in deception, they are going to get involved in an attempt to divert attention from the real issues that are impacting the American people,” the California-born senator told The Grio in a published interview. on Sunday. “And I hope they get involved in dirty tactics, and this is going to be a knockout, a drag, and we are ready. We are ready.”

Joe Biden nominated her as his running mate last week, making her the first black and South Asian woman nominated as vice president of a major political party.

Last week, Kamala Harris had her candidacy questioned by an article in Newsweek addressing her parents’ immigration status at the time of her birth. However, their citizenship and eligibility for the role under the United States Constitution are not in question.

President Donald Trump called the “birther” allegation against Harris “very serious” when questioned by a reporter at a news conference on Thursday. And he added that it is nothing that he is chasing, but he also said nothing to discredit him.

“I heard today that she doesn’t meet the requirements,” he told reporters before praising the article’s author as “a highly qualified and talented lawyer.”

Trump pushed a similar conspiracy theory for years against his predecessor, former President Barack Obama. And although she said she would not investigate Harris’ eligibility, Jenna Ellis, a senior legal advisor for the Trump campaign, retweeted the opinion piece and encouraged Harris to approach it.
