Kanye West Says Slavery Was a Choice, Gets Shut Down by TMZ Staffer

During an appearance on TMZ Live Tuesday morning, Kanye West made the bold and misguided proclamation that the 400 years black Americans spent being enslaved was a choice — much to the ire of one TMZ staffer.

Kanye made the appearance with Candace Owens, and the pair explained their definition of “free thought” and how coming from a place of love can make the world a better place.

At one point during the conversation, Kanye says, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years…for 400 years? That sound like a choice.”
