Sad Saga Continues For Enigmatic Irving

If there ever were a situation where the phrase “well, that escalated quickly” were more apropos, it is the sudden breakup between Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets. Amid a good season for the franchise, and less than a week after leading Brooklyn to their ninth consecutive win over the Knicks, in another virtuoso performance, Irving asked the organization for a trade in a stunning development. 48 hours later the Nets acquiesced to his request and traded him along with Markieff Morris to the Dallas Mavericks last weekend.
The move ends a disappointing and controversial three and a half seasons for Irving in Brooklyn, which began with championship aspirations. But that never materialized as Irving only played in 143 of 278 games due to a myriad of issues that left the team in a bad spot every time. The impetus of Irving’s unhappiness this time was the refusal of the organization to give him a long new term guaranteed contract before his current contract expires at season’s end. Irving has been too undependable for the Nets to sign off on anything yet. In the trade Brooklyn gets back former Net Spencer Dinwiddie, swing man Dorian Finney-Smith and draft picks.
