Davis Body Shot Stops Garcia In 7th

By Joshua Garcia

Las Vegas, Nevada – Throughout fight week two words were tossed around at every turn. It was of no importance the language being spoken or where the content was being broadcast, ‘left hand’ was all anyone with a microphone or laptop would be discussing when addressing the big bout in Las Vegas between Gervonta Tank Davis and Ryan Garcia.

That premonition would come to fruition, but it was the wrong man’s left hand being evaluated, because Gervonta Davis showed the world just what his could do. Whether it was to prove a point to the boxing world or rather just picking his shots when he saw an opening, Tank Davis’ two best shots of the night were a 2nd round straight left and a 7th round left hook, both of which saw Ryan Garcia taste the canvas for only the second and third times of his previously undefeated career.

As the smaller fighter for most if not all of his life, Davis has always found a wrinkle in strategy to equalize his opponent’s size advantage and somehow use it toward his own. Davis’ body work in his earlier matchup against Mario Barrios was equally as effective against Garcia and it wore him down as the night went on, directly leading to the 7th round KO.

While Tank Davis continued his game plan of working the body of Garcia and bringing him down to his glove level, he landed a left hook to the liver that Garcia immediately tried to shake off but could not. Garcia’s left foot began to tremble as he tried to step back and regroup from the heavy shot to his side. He then went down to a knee in pain and could not rise before the referee’s count, ending his night and his undefeated record.

Gervonta Davis looked the better fighter all night, and proved it in the 7th round as Ryan Garcia could not rise from a knee and with blood streaming from his nose from the punishment. When asked about his dominant performance Davis replied, “I felt like I was a level above him… Everything he was doing in the ring I was already aware of”.

The 29-0 (27 KO’s) Tank Davis, will now look ahead to bigger fights with possible names such as the Champion Devin Haney or the Tri State area‘s rising star in Shakur Stevenson.
