The New York Jets thrived early in the game, but failed to score after the first quarter and lost 23-6 to the New York Giants in their final preseason matchup last Friday night at MetLife Stadium.

Running back Chip Trayanum, who scored the lone touchdown was taken to the hospital for a neck injury later in the game. Jets linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball, who made the interception that setup the touchdown, shined throughout the game for defense, but offense struggled with scoring including field goals.

“The fact of, man we just seemed to die on offense as far as just moving the ball,” said Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn.

The Giants won the coin and elected to receive first. Jameis Winston filled in to start for Jaxson Dart, who did not play. McCrary-Ball intercepted a pass from Winston intended for Odell Beckham Jr. on third down during the Giants’ opening possession and returned for 19 yards. QB Rookie Quarterback Cade Klubnik started for the Jets as Geno Smith sat out.

The Jets trailed 7-6 at the end of the first quarter after a 6-yard touchdown run by RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. before the injury, Trayanum finished with 38 yards on 12 carries.

“I feel like there was just a continual buildup in everything that Coach AG has implemented through his speeches, through what he wants in practices and to see what he wants to see in each of the games,” McCrary-Ball said

Klubnik completed 6 of 13 passes for 59 yards

Coach decided Klubnik would be their No. 2 quarterback at the conclusion of preseason. Bailey Zappe was released.

Jets narrowed to the final 53-man roster and added 16 players to their practice squad on Monday.

Kicker Cade York was waived Aug. 25. Sanders was released Monday and the Jets signed Blake Grupe as a new kicker Monday.

The Jets open up the 2026-2027 season on the road when they face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 13th at 1pm.
