Brown Not Happy With The Refs Calls
It had to end at some point. The New York Knicks took the floor Monday night at the World’s Most Famous Arena against the San Antonio Spurs riding high having won their previous 13 playoff games. 7 straight on the road. The Orange and Blue took the first 2 games in San Antonio. It was their first NBA Finals home game since 1999 when they lost to the Spurs in 5 games. They had to watch San Antonio raise the Larry O’Brien Trophy on the Garden floor. With President Donald Trump in attendance, the Knicks looked to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. Spurs center Victor Wembayama, who struggled in the first 2 games, had other plans.

San Antonio wasted no time getting off to a 9-3 first quarter lead. They extended the lead to 24-13 and closed out the quarter 33-22. Knicks head coach Mike Brown implored his team to step up their game and the message was well received. New York outscored San Antonio 42-24 taking a 7-point (64-57) lead at halftime. Knicks forward OG Anunoby leading the team with 17 points with guard and captain Jalen Brunson chipping in 15. Spurs guard Stephon Castle scoring 18 points and Wembayama added 15. The Knicks converted 12 of 14 free throws with San Antonio netting 5 of their 8. The second half would be a totally different story from free throw line for both teams.
In the 115-111 win, the San Antonio Spurs went ended up making 20 more free throws in the second half as they overcame the 7-point deficit. The win guaranteed there will be a game 5 back in San Antonio. Said Brown, ” l tell the guys, it’s a seven-game series for a reason. They are a great team. They are well coached. They have an iconic palyer. It’s not going to be easy.”

Wembayama had his best game of the series finishing with 32 points, 8 of 9 from the free throw line. Brunson matched him scoring 32 as well but his 5 turnovers was a factor in the loss. The Spurs continued to be physical with Bruson as Wemby slammed him to the floor in the first quarter, while Jalen Brunson attempted to set a screen. Wembanyama shoved him in the back of the neck, sending the Knicks guard to the floor. No foul was called, and no review was triggered. No review was initiated. Brunson stood up, confronted Wembanyama, and the game moved on. Said Brunson, “whatever you saw is what you saw.”
The New York Knicks looked to take a 3-1 series lead when they hosted game 4 Wednesday night. Brown has faith the team will bounce back. “There are some things that we can control that I didn’t think that we controlled tonight.”
