The San Antonio Spurs reached the NBA Finals by beating the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals last Saturday night. The Spurs dominated the Thunder in the regular season, and they made it stick in the playoffs as they got the best of the Thunder by the final score of 111-103.  San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama scored a team-high 22 points for San Antonio as they had seven players score in double figures. The Spurs now reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014 when they beat the Miami Heat.

The Spurs will now face the Knicks in an NBA Finals rematch from 1999 when the Spurs won their first championship. They have won five total since that point and lost once, which came in the 2013 Finals. The run to the NBA Finals this season has been impressive for this current collection of Spurs as they had not been to the playoffs as a group before this season. They played and lost to the Knicks in the NBA’s midseason NBA Cup Tournament. Like 1999 was the first championship for a young Tim Duncan when he played the Knicks. San Antonio hopes young Victor Wembanyama can win his first of many championships against the Knicks this time around.
