The 2025 Subway Series at Yankee Stadium delivered high drama, a hero’s welcome for Cody Bellinger, and a Bronx reunion that left Juan Soto under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Game 1: Yankees 6, Mets 2 (Friday, May 16)

Carlos Rodón continued his strong stretch, earning his fourth consecutive win by allowing just one run over five innings. The Yankees capitalized on a four-run third inning, highlighted by Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI single and an error by Francisco Lindor that allowed two runs to score. Cody Bellinger added three hits, extending his hitting streak. Juan Soto, returning to the Bronx, was met with boos and went 0-for-1 with three walks. To start the game, the entire section of fans in the right field porch and in the rows behind them, turned their backs to Soto as a gesture of disrespect.

Game 2: Mets 3, Yankees 2 (Saturday, May 17)

The Mets evened the series with a late rally. Francisco Lindor’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning drove in the winning run. DJ LeMahieu and Cody Bellinger each homered for the Yankees, while Soto contributed with a single and a stolen base before scoring on a sacrifice fly. Lindor continues to act as the Mets’ heart ‘n soul, winning big games for them down the stretch and contributing an irreplaceable energy night in and night out.

Game 3: Yankees 8, Mets 2 (Sunday, May 18)

In the rubber match, Cody Bellinger delivered a grand slam in the eighth inning, capping a six-run frame that broke a 2-2 tie. Max Fried pitched six solid innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Juan Soto went 0-for-4, concluding the series 1-for-10. Fried has proven to be one of the top pitchers in the game and the Yanks’ surefire ace in place of the recovering Gerrit Cole.

The Yankees’ offseason acquisitions, namely Bellinger, Fried, and Goldschmidt, played pivotal roles in the series victory, while the Mets’ high-profile signing of Soto faced early scrutiny. The Mets got off to a strong start behind the league’s easiest schedule through six weeks—but with more tough opponents coming after the Yanks, their early momentum is being put to the test. The teams are set to meet again in July at Citi Field.

The Mets began a 3 games series in Boston Monday night losing game one 3-1. The Yankees began a 3-game series at home against the Texas Rangers.
