Trump doesn’t admit that African-Americans suffer disproportionately from police brutality. In an interview with CBS News, the President made startling remarks about the Confederate flag, victims of police violence, and a recent confrontation in St. Louis, where a couple pointed guns at protesters.

“Why are African-Americans still dying at the hands of law enforcement in this country?” Catherine Herridge of CBS News asked the President.

“What a terrible question to ask,” the President responded. “So are white people. More white people, by the way.”

While police officers kill Americans, statistics show that African-Americans are killed at higher rates. Based on a federal study that examined the lethal force used by police from 2009 to 2012, the majority of victims were white, but the victims were disproportionately black. The fatality rate of the blacks at the hands of police officers was more than two times that of white people.

“They were going to be beaten up badly, and the house was going to be totally ransacked and probably burned down,” Mr. Trump said.

In a video of the incident, none of the protesters is seen threatening or attacking the couple. This is just one of the instances where Trump has openly refused to acknowledge the racial injustice that even some of his party members feel should be addressed.

While the President recently retweeted a video of supporter shouting “white power,” saying that he would oppose bipartisan effort to do away with Confederate names from military bases, he’s not ready to bridge the racial gaps in the country.
