The manner in which a dead Maryland rapper’s body was purportedly exhibited has gone viral. Markelle Morrow, also known as “Goonew,” was found shot in a District Heights parking lot last month and died.

As per Hot97.com, the rapper’s friends and family convened at Bliss, a Washington, D.C. nightclub, on Sunday to celebrate his legacy at a cost of $40 per attendee. Morrow’s reportedly embalmed corpse was raised up onstage clothed in luxury apparel and a crown, according to video from the occasion.

The whoe show appeared to be a remake of “Weekend At Bernie’s,” a legendary comedy from 1989 about two guys who pretend a dead mobster has come back to life for a weekend.

Fans of the late artist spoke out against the gesture, with some claiming that having the deceased standing throughout the party was disrespectful. Later accounts stated that it was a wax figure rather than a real corpse, claims that many attending refuted.

The outcry was so great that the nightclub apologized on social media on Monday, stating it had been asked by a local funeral home to host a memorial service for the rapper, but had no clue “what would transpire.”

Goonew was shot about 5:45 p.m. on March 18 in District Heights, Maryland, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department. There is a $25,000 prize for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the crime.

“Once on scene, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound,” the department wrote. “The victim was taken to a hospital for life threatening injuries. At approx. 7:30 pm, the victim was pronounced dead.”
