The East Room of the White House was packed with a sea of young black conservative faces– wearing red MAGA hats and big smiles on their faces. The electrified crowd was gathered to see and support President Trump. The 2018 Young Black Leadership Summit was sponsored by one conservative organization, Turning Point USA. The organization is focused on identifying, organizing and empowering young Americans to take up active roles in the national limelight.
As the crowd waited for the President, Roland Martin found himself in hot fire as a debate broke between him and Trump’s supporters. The debate started with a question from Joel Patrick – a strong Trump supporter in the crowd.
Patrick speaking to theGrio said, ““People assume that because you value conservative ideas that you hate yourself and that you hate black culture and that you hate everything that has to do with diversity, when the truth of the matter is we want all of those things even more. That’s why we want to see them realized in a way that the Democratic party hasn’t been able to realize them for African Americans.”
