While most of the city’s protests were peaceful, two of the demonstrations resulted in arrests and material damage—the first involved 150 people marching from a local concert hall to the Oregon Democratic Party headquarters. When they arrived, some protesters broke the glass door, the windows, spread painful vulgarities in the building, and set fire to the dumps.

As a result, eight people between the ages of 18 and 38 have been charged with criminal action with items such as Molotov cocktails, knives, and chemical spray. Later that night, about 150 people marched to the ICE office in Portland. According to the police, the protesters wore gas masks and helmets and held pepper pistols, taser-type weapons, shields, and stones. Protesters even threw eggs and stones at the building, and federal police responded by launching “crowd control ammunition”.

Portland Police Sergeant Kevin Allen said that details of what munitions used, and any arrests made, would have to come from federal authorities. “The Portland Police did not deploy any CS gas.”

Some of the protesters had anti-Biden, anti-police, and pro-Black Lives Matter signs. According to Hill, local Black Lives Matter leaders said they did not want to be associated with the protests.
