The New York Mets have had an eventful offseason thus far, first losing out on their former two-time National League Cy Young award winner Jacob DeGrom after he chose to leave through free agency and sign with the Texas Rangers on a five-year $237 million contract.  Injury concerns from the past three seasons is what prevented the Mets from making a more competitive offer to DeGrom who was becoming one of the best Mets in franchise history.  With their deep pocket’s owner Steve Cohen, who has been at the helm for two years now, the Mets quickly pivoted and signed 2022 American League Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander to a two-year $86 million deal after winning another championship with the Houston Astros this past season.

The Mets also went to Japan to sign pitcher Kodai Senga to five-year $75 million deal.  They have resigned centerfielder Brandon Nimmo to an eight-year $162 million deal.  They’ve also added starting pitcher Jose Quintana, who had a 2.82 ERA last season, and relief pitcher David Robertson who helped the Yankees win their last championship in 2009.
