Newark, New Jersey’s Shakur Stevenson scored a decisive 118-109 (two judges), 117-110 win over Oscar Valdez Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to capture the WBC title, adding it to his WBO belt. He became a two-division champion.

Stevenson, who many compare to Floyd Mayweather because of his defense, was able to avoid the devastating left hook from Valdez all night. He talked about his dominant win after the bout.

“This victory means everything,” he said, after earning the victory. “I told ya’ll what I was going to do. I said I’m gonna beat Valdez, Canelo and Eddy Reynoso, so that was my gameplan, beat the whole team and I feel good about it. Much respect to them, but that was my gameplan.”

Stevenson then proposed to his girlfriend, recording artist Lyric, after the fight by getting down on one knee. She said yes.

In the undercard, Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of Muhammaf Ali, knocked out Alejandro Ibarra in the first round, showcasing his devastating power as the crowd chanted “Ali, Ali, Ali!”

Keyshawn Davis, who Top Rank founder Bob Arum compared to Sugar Ray Leonard, was victorious over Esteban Sanchez.
