The Hatfield’s (Yankees) and the McCoys (Tampa Bay) faced each other this past Monday night in game 1 of the American League Division Series. The Rays dominated the Bronx Bombers during the truncated regular 60 game season winning 8 of 10 games. Things got salty at one point when Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman threw a 101-mph fastball at the head of Mike Brosseau resulting in both benches clearing. So, when they faced each other at Petco Park in San Diego California, both teams were looking to advance to the American League Championship series.
New York opened the vault in the off season, signing Gerrit Cole to contract of over $300 million dollars. Cole showed why he has earned every penny. Although he didn’t have his best stuff, Cole allowed only 3 runs, striking out 8 in 6 innings. The biggest out coming in the 5th when he struck Manuel Margot with the bases loaded blowing a 100mph fastball by Margot. Cole’s only blemishes of the night was giving up 2 home runs which the Yankees erased on a Aaron Judge solo shot in the 5th inning and blew the game open when off injured Giancarlo Stanton blasted a 9th inning grand slam extending the lead to the final score 9-3.

Bronx Bombers Clint Frazier gave the team a brief lead (2-1) with a 3rd inning home run and the bullpen pitched 3 innings of shut-out ball.
Game 2 took place Tuesday night with Yankees taking a chance starting 21-year old rookie Deivi Garcia as Tampa looked to hard throwing right-hander Tyler Glasnow. New York will start Masahiro Tanaka in game 3 with the Rays sending Charlie Morton to the mound.
The Yankees sent a message to Tampa in game one that the regular season results don’t matter. If the Hatfield’s wins game two, the McCoys just might be finished.
