After reaching .500 again for the first time since August 15th, the Yankees dropped another series to the Brewers.

In game 1, young Jasson Dominguez continued to make a huge impact, hitting a 2 run homer in the 3rd. Luis Severino strung together a solid start, pitching 4 innings and allowing 2 runs with 5 strikeouts.

But an injury in the 5th caused him to be removed from the game. Sevy suffered a serious left oblique strain, and will miss the remainder of the season. The Yankee bullpen could not hold on, giving up 12 hits, while the offense could not produce a hit after the 3rd, and the Brewers won 8-2. It is likely that Severino’s career with New York could be over.

In game 2, the Yankees’ season continued to reach new lows. Not only did the team lose 9-2, but Dominguez tore his UCL. No exact timetable for his return has been released, and the organization can only hope for a speedy recovery for the young slugger.

Michael King had another very successful start – a small upside for New York, a team who is about to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Game 3 was a hard fought contest that saw both starting pitchers go deep into the game. Gerrit Cole was fantastic, pitching 7 scoreless innings with 9 strikeouts. The game was scoreless all the way until the 11th, as New York was also shut down – by former Cy Young Corbin Burns. But Kyle Higoshioka came through in the bottom of the 13th with a walkoff double, as New York won 4-3.

Game 1 against Boston Monday night was rained out and they played a day-night doubleheader Tuesday before finishing the 4-game series Thursday.
