The 2022 NBA draft returns to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn Thursday June 23rd and currently only one New York team has an option for a new top draft pick.
More opportunities could be available with decisions surrounding free agents. The New York Knicks have the 11th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft and the 42nd pick in the second round of the draft, while the Brooklyn Nets have no picks in the first or second round.

According to the NCAA the Duke Blue Devils, have had the most Number 1 overall picks in the NBA Draft. One of those top picks was Kyrie Irving, who was selected as the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although the Nets currently do not have picks in round 1 or 2, there may be more opportunities for the team depending on decisions made as Irving approaches free agency. Kyrie is looking for a long term extension and after this past season where he missed games for his Covid stance, Brooklyn is hesitant.
The Knicks might need a point guard, as Derrick Rose missed games due to injury.
The Knicks ended round 1of the 2021 NBA Draft with the 25th overall pick, Quentin Grimes and the Nets acquired the 2021 the 27th overall pick, Cameron Thomas and the 29th overall pick Day’Ron Sharpe.
6-10 forward Jabari Smith of Auburn University is anticipated to be the first overall pick by the Orlando Magic.
