Nine months away from the office will make anyone a bit rusty at their job, but don’t tell that to Gennady “Triple G” Golvkin and new trainer Johnathon Banks. Despite a significant layoff and after bringing in former Klitschko trainer and long time boxer Johnathon Davis, Golovkin looked sharp at Madison Square Garden last Saturday night vs undefeated Toronto Native Steve Rolls.

The first bout of his new six fight contract with DAZN’s digital platform subscription application, Triple G did not disappoint sending the Garden crowd into a frenzy with strong KO of Steve Rolls. It only took Golovkin, who is a notorious slow starter, four rounds to end the fight.

Following the impressive knockout, Golovkin and Davis both eluded to the fact that part of the gameplan was to end the fight as quickly as possible. Although they would not admit it, this fight was a exhibition of Gennady’s undiminished skills, despite his critics.

Of course most, if not all the questions post fight for Golovkin promoters and the boxer himself were concerning his possible next fight, a third installment of the Canelo-Triple G rivalry. Wrapped in controversy, the first two results have been questioned and the boxing public demands a fair clean judged fight between the two. Golovkin says he is not a fan of having another fight in Las Vegas after he and his team felt that they were robbed in the decision that went Canelo’s way in part II. Madison Square Garden is G’s desired location as he says the most honest boxing happens there.

Golovkin’s next opponent, or desired opponent shall we say, could care less what he thinks or wishes. Golden Boy Promoter Oscar De La Hota took to Twitter after the fight to tell Golovkin to “fight a real fighter, win a belt, and I’ll consider doing the 3rd fight. #CaneloIsyourBoss”.

Oscar’s tweet did not go unnoticed by team Golovkin who responded saying he could care less what Oscar has to say and asked the media what his response tweet should be to De La Hoya. Whether or not anyone agrees with the outcomes of the two previous bouts, the desire to see a third fight is undeniable. Canelo is Triple G’s best option as a big ticket and large purse prize fight and vice versa. With both now signed to DAZN it’s not if another superfight will happen, but where and when.
