Boston – In an epic battle at TD Garden in Boston and on national television the Brooklyn Nets battled the red-hot Celtics tough all afternoon but a 54-point explosion by superstar Jayson Tatum lifted Boston to a 126-120 victory.

Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash discussed Tatum’s performance afterward. “The biggest thing was transition,” Nash said of the NBA All-Star. “He got five, six walk-in threes in transition, layups. When a guy gets hot like that, you can’t give him the freebies. I know we put him on the line a little bit too much. You add it all up and when a guy has an exceptional game instead of having 39 and you have a chance, he has 54.”

Despite the loss, Brooklyn showed tremendous potential battling a team that has won 8 of 10 andfacing a ruthless Boston crowd. Brooklyn has the potential to get much better, as they have yet to add Ben Simmons, who is not only an elite defender but a skillful passer as well.

Kevin Durant did all he could to keep Brooklyn in the game scoring 37 points with Kyrie Irving adding 19. Boston’s Jaylen Brown helped Tatum chipping in 21. Brooklyn visited the Charlotte Hornets this past Tuesday before going to Philadelphia Thursday to take on James Harden for the first time since the trade. The Nets come home Sunday to face the Knicks.

The loss to Boston dropped the Nets to below .500 at 32-33 and as of this report, they are in 9th place in the conference.
