The Missouri white man who was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, aggravated sexual offense, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree assault nearly two years ago has just been charged with another gruesome felony.
Timothy Haslett Jr., 41, was charged with those crimes in October 2022 after a 22-year-old Black woman escaped from his captivity. She was discovered by Haslett’s neighbors after they heard screams for help and found her wearing a metal dog collar around her neck.
On Tuesday, prosecutors announced that Haslett Jr. has also been charged with the first-degree murder of Jaynie Crosdale, another Black woman, according to NBC News.
Crosdale’s remains were found a year ago in July 2023, stuffed in a barrel on the Missouri River.
More from NBC News:
Investigators believe Crosdale, who is Black, was killed between June 6, 2022, and Oct. 7, 2022, an indictment states. Photos taken from a device belonging to Haslett showed Crosdale inside the basement of his Excelsior Springs home, according to Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson.
The blue barrel Crosdale’s remains were found in also matched other barrels at Haslett’s home, the prosecutor said.
It’s alleged that Haslett Jr. once told the woman who escaped that two other women “did not make it.” This unidentifiedwoman who escaped claimed that he told her that he killed one woman with a gas mask and that the other “died by electrocution” during a sexual act, according to NBC News.
It’s unclear at this time if Haslett Jr. is the suspect in any other active homicide cases, but it was also discovered by the Kansas City Defender in October 2022 that Haslett Jr. has been making racist statements on social media for years.
