A tragic escape attempt on a Mississippi highway ended in the death of a pregnant woman who had been kidnapped outside her workplace by an ex-boyfriend, according to police reports. Glynis Jackson, 31, was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle after fleeing from the moving car of her alleged abductor, Joshua Demarshall Andrews. The incident has left the community in shock, with Andrews now facing multiple murder charges.
Authorities say the ordeal began on the morning of January 27 in the parking lot of a Nissan manufacturing plant in Canton, Mississippi, where Jackson worked. Andrews, who had traveled from Georgia, allegedly confronted her there, forcibly taking her from the lot and driving onto the highway. By the time Madison County deputies responded to the initial kidnapping call, both Jackson and Andrews had already left the scene.
During the drive, investigators believe that Jackson was shot multiple times inside the vehicle before she managed to escape. She exited the car while it was still moving on the interstate but was fatally hit by a passing vehicle, according to WTVA. A firearm connected to Andrews was later recovered by authorities, who suspect it was used in the attack. The case remains under investigation.
Andrews has been charged with capital murder for Jackson’s death and first-degree murder in connection to the death of her unborn child. Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker described the crime as “heinous” and vowed that Andrews would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. A judge denied Andrews bail during his initial court appearance, citing concerns over his potential to flee.
Court records reveal that Andrews, 29, has a violent criminal history, including a conviction for aggravated assault and a shooting-related offense. He had been released from prison in 2022, a fact now under scrutiny as law enforcement officials investigate the circumstances that led to Jackson’s death.
