Following an off-night last Friday with a 5-4 loss to Boston, New York turned it around starting with four runs in the first inning and culminating with a 14-1 victory. Matt Carpenter and Aaron Judge, each had two home-runs and multiple RBI, were instrumental in the win and Yankees Manager Aaron Boone said the lineup up made a difference.

“That’s baseball,” Boone said. “We were able to put together a lot of really good at bats against Pivetta there. Made it tough on him right from jump street.”
Carpenter stood out with a stellar performance that led to his first curtain call as a New York Yankee. He scored three runs (two of which were homers) and had seven RBIs. Boone said Carpenter has fit in perfectly since joining the team. “He has been eager to play different positions, which has opened up some different opportunities for him,” Boone said.
Carpenter hit his 13th home-run in 30 games. The Yankees signed the three-time All-Star to a Major League contract back in May. “I chuckle a little bit every single time I see Carp out there in right field just because I’ve seen him so many years in the infield playing for the Cardinals, but he holds it down out there in right field,” said Aaron Judge.

Carpenter said he wanted to help when given the opportunity. “That’s kind of my mind set,” he said. “Come to the ballpark and execute my role and if it’s right field, DH or pinch-hitting, just trying to execute that on a day-to-day basis.”
Boone said Judge has been great for the team. Judge scored three times, which included two were homers that totaled 33 for the season, and added three RBI. “The first homer and then the second homer was really impressive,” Boone said.
Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon also did his part and only allowed one run in six innings.
Carpenter said he looked for another win last Sunday before the All-Star break.. “I hope we go out there tomorrow and finish the first half strong and get a serious victory here against Boston,” Carpenter added.
They did just that behind ace Gerrit Cole in the 13-2 romp over Boston. In fact, New York outscored the Red Sox 27-3 in the last two games. The win gave the Bombers a league best record of 64-28. It was the 16th time this season the Yanks double-digit runs.
Cole was splendid as he only gave up 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings, striking out 12 while not allowing any Boston player to reach via a walk. I think I just executed the pitches that I wanted to execute today, and I think we sequenced better than we did last time,” he said.
Carpenter followed up his 7 rbi performance Saturday adding 3 more in the Sunday win. The struggling Joey Gallo tacked on a two-run homer after entering as defensive replacement in the seventh.
Yanks Tim Locastro, suffered a torn ACL in his right knee last year against Boston, blasted a 2-run home run as he went 3 for 5, stealing 2 bases. The team awarded him with the postgame wrestling belt. The first in his career. “It took me a year to get that,” he said.
Baseball is a marathon not a sprint. That said, the New York Yankees have put serious distance between the rest of the American League. Said Boone, “Great job by them been a little bit of a rough week obviously. To answer Saturday night and Sunday with two pretty emphatic victories, you want to roll into the break feeling good.”
When play resumes Thursday, the Yankees will travel to Houston for a day-night doubleheader because the lockout postponed their originally scheduled season-opening road trip.
