Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez plans to endorse Bernie Sanders at a campaign rally on Saturday, according to two Sanders aides, strengthening the Vermont senator’s pull among young liberals.

The influential New York congresswoman’s endorsement will come at a pivotal moment in Sanders’ presidential bid, which has stalled in the polls as he faces continued questions about his age and health following a heart attack that curtailed his campaign activities.

And Ocasio-Cortez is not the only member of the Squad to get behind Sanders — Rep. Ilhan Omar formally announced her endorsement on Tuesday night.

Nothing just about ‘Justice’

“Bernie is leading a working class movement to defeat Donald Trump that transcends generation, ethnicity, and geography,” Omar said in a statement.

Ocasio-Cortez in particular has been invested in Sanders’ political career prior to the upcoming endorsement: the 30-year-old volunteered in his 2016 presidential campaign and was encouraged to run for Congress in 2018 by a group that grew out of his campaign.

The congresswoman, who has quickly become one of the most influential voices in young liberalism after her surprise victory over Joe Crowley, plans to present her sought-after endorsement at a “Bernie’s Back” rally on Saturday in Queens just outside her congressional district.
