Lamar Jackson couldn’t be stopped as he led the Baltimore Ravens in a 24-9 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.

It didn’t take long for Jackson to warm up and dominate at MetLife Stadium. Jackson who is notorious for using his feet to run the ball, used his arm to throw three long touchdown passes.

“He got the guys in the right spots, and then he was poised in the pocket, held the ball, protected the ball, found guys open, moved when he had to, made a couple plays with his legs when he had to here and there,” said Ravens Head Coach John Harbough. “He played a really veteran, winning quarterback type of a game.”

Harbough started his analysis of the game saying how special it was for the Ravens to play in New York for this game.

“It was really an honor, we felt like, to be here on 9/11, and to be in New York City and to get a chance to take a walk last night, I did with some of the other coaches,” he said.

Jackson used his legs more after halftime. He rushed for four yards on one carry by the end of the second quarter and totaled 17-yards in six carries for the game.

“I guess I just had to,” he explained when asked about using his legs more in the second half of the game. “They were covering pretty well. [If] the pocket breaks down, just had to make something happen, get a first down, [and] get a few yards here and there.”

The Ravens had a slow start, but were first on the scoreboard with a field goal by kicker Justin Tucker in the first quarter.  Jackson was still warming up.

“I feel like it was just us feeling it out, out there,” Jackson said.  “I haven’t played in like six games (since) last year – not much really. Yes, we’re just getting back into the swing of things.”

The Ravens scored their first touchdown in the second quarter with a 25-yard pass from Jackson to wide receiver Devin Duvernay.
“Ran a go, just went up and tried to make a play,” said Duvernay. “We’ve been doing it all camp, so it’s good to do that in a game.”

Jackson connected again with Duvernay in the third quarter for a 17-yard touchdown pass and found wide receiver Rashod Bateman at the end of the third quarter for a 55-yard pass and touchdown. Jackson completed 17 of 30 attempted passes for 213-yards and threw one interception. “We played better, we came out better in the second half and started putting points on the board,” Jackson said.

It was reported last week that Jackson turned down a 5-year, $250 million dollar offer with $133 million guaranteed from the organization. Jackson told the powers that be he would not negotiate during the season. Jackson will make $23 million this season and is looking for Deshaun Watson money as he signed with the Cleveland Browns for 5 years at $230 million dollars. All of it guaranteed.
