The Butler Bulldogs saw their season come to an end on Thursday afternoon as they fell 78-57 to St John’s University at Madison Square Garden. Butler never led this game and were in an 18-3 hole before they knew what hit them. “I think that they made a lot of tough plays,” said Butler’s fifth year forward Jahmyl Telfort. St John’s outrebounded Butler 44 to 34 on the boards. “We knew that’s a team that’s going to come and offensive rebound, and they got 14 today. That’s already something we can’t give them because there’s a lot of second-chance points right there. Butler finishes their season with a 6-14 record in the Big East and a 14-19 record overall. “We’ve obviously got work to do. That’s from every phase of our program,” Butler Head Coach Thad Matta said after the game. “We’re losing four seniors that are a lot of our production, there’s no question.”

Butler guard Patrick McCaffery led Butler with 16 points. Jahmyl Telfort had 11 points and guard Finley Bizjack added 10 points. For St John’s three players, Kadary Richmond, RJ Luis Jr, and Aaron Scott combined to score 50 of St John’s 78 points.
