The Oklahoma City Thunder came back from a 15-point deficit on Wednesday night to defeat the Brooklyn Nets 129-121 at the Barclays Center Wednesday night. Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous Alexander scored a game high 27 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the floor and 12 of 13 from the free throw line. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren also scored 22 points for OKC who at 47-11 have the best record in the Western Conference.
With the loss, the Nets fall to 21-37 and are a game and a half removed from the final playoff Play-In spot in the Eastern Conference. They had won seven of their last ten games going into the contest. “We were very aggressive in the first half and it allowed us to run, and we did a good job with our second chances the whole game.” Nets Head Coach Jordi Fernandez said to the media afterwards. “There were a couple of instances where we made three mental mistakes in a row, and again one mistake is always ok, but when you compound mistakes is when runs happen.”
Center Day’Ron Sharpe led Brooklyn with 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. “I’m just a beast on them boards. I don’t really think nobody can mess with me in the paint when it comes to that. Like I tell you all every time, no matter how big, no matter how tall, it’s just what I do. It’s going to take three people to box me out, I just play hard,” Sharpe said after the game.
Sharpe felt like the Nets were feeling themselves a little after getting up on the West’s best early in the game. “Our lack of focus going into the second half, we gave them like two, three runs where they went on a 9-0 run or we were turning the ball over and weren’t hitting shots and they got back into the game.”
Brooklyn will look to get back in the win column Friday night at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.
