Nebraska High School Students Face Discipline After Posing In Locker Room In Front Of Nazi Flag

Another day, another blow to Americans who truly want to believe that hate, racism and bigotry will die away as the youth of today replace older generations. In Nebraska, two high school students are set to face consequences after they were seen on social media posing in their high school’s locker room in front of a Nazi flag.

According to KWTX 10, Aurora Public Schools has addressed the issue of two high school students and their proud display of white supremacist hate by assuring the public that steps are being taken to discipline the offenders, who have not been named publicly, although Jody Phillips, the district’s superintendent, confirmed that they have been identified.

“We look to see if there’s anything as far as code of conduct, board policy is related to that situation or what it might be,” Phillips said. “Then, from there, they would issue consequences, student discipline as appropriate, as outlined in the code of conduct.“

The school is investigating others who may have been involved in the incident, including the student who took the photo.

“Anytime you have inappropriate behavior, we go to our handbook and enforce what we have in place,” Phillips said. “So, with this incident, and any other incident, we would follow the same procedure and handle that accordingly.“

Phillips acknowledged the photo was inappropriate and unacceptable. He said they held a meeting on Monday morning with all high school students and the administration.

“This isn’t a true reflection of them or our school,” Phillips said. “Right now, we’re still in the phase of talking individually with our students. We had our school counselor as well, so if we have any students that are hurt or feel uncomfortable with that, we would be utilizing them to reach out to those students or be available for those students.“

So, Phillips offered up a pretty standard statement, but maybe he’s right in claiming the symbol of hate the teens were posing in front of “isn’t a true reflection” of the students at Aurora High School.

Maybe it’s a reflection of young people who are spending their developmental years in a country where the presidential inauguration included a newly-appointed unofficial government official throwing up Nazi salutes as politicians and American voters who are supposed to be grown ups cheered the gesture. Maybe the kids witnessed that Nazi salute become a trend among so-called American leaders, and they’ve seen the trend of neo-Nazis staging marches righ out in the open with little push-back from many of our so-called leaders.

But truthfully, even before President Donald Trump returned to the White House and made Elon Musk his right-hand man, school-aged white children were making headlines for launching racist Snapchat videos, which often included references to slave auctions, and racist proposals, which pretty much always included the tired, overused racist-as-hell exclamation, “If I was Black I would be picking cotton, but I’m white so I’m picking you.”
