The Jets record fell to 0-8 after their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Jets struggled with getting into the end zone, and a total of five touchdown throws by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led to their 35-9 defeat.
“There are a lot of things we have to do better,” Jets Head Coach Adam Gase said. “We have to execute better. We have to play a better game, especially against that team right there.”
The Jets offense started with courageous vigor as they broke through Kansas City. RB Frank Gore assisted and led offense in rushing with 10 carries for 30 yds total. Field goal kicker Sergio Castillo, managed three field goals against the 2020 Super Bowl champions in the first half of the game. New York had a chance for another field goal before halftime, but Castillo’s kick was blocked by Chief’s SAF Armani Watts.

“I think guys were pissed,” Gase said about the block. “We felt like we were at least going to steal three there and then come back out with the ball and see what happened after that.”
Gase said the locker room talk was good at half time. “Guys felt like there was a lot of good things that we took out of that first half,” Gase said. “We just needed to continue doing it and find a way to get into the endzone when we’re in the red zone.”
Jets didn’t score the remainder of the game as Chiefs defense held them at bay, leaving QB Sam Darnold to rush. “Yeah, I thought there were some times where I pulled it down and had some good opportunities to run and throw on the move,” Darnold said. “So, yeah, it’s kind of a reaction deal when the pocket breaks down or anything like that.” Darnold rushed for 21 yards and had 18 of 30 completed passes for 133 yds. Mahomes had 31 of 42 completed passes for 416 yds.
CB Pierre Desir and CB Blessuan Austin led Jets defense each with six tackles. Desir also had one assist. “I knew we had to stop those guys, because they’re good with yards after catch,” Desir said. “So just swarming to the ball, running to the ball, doing whatever you can to limit those possessions and get off the field on third downs.”
LB Avery Williamson led defense with four assists. He had five tackles. On Monday the Jets announced via Twitter that pending a physical, they agreed to trade Williamson and a 2022 7th round pick to the Pittsburgh Stealers, in exchange for a 2022 5th round pick.
The Jets face the New England Patriots in week 9 who are coming off another loss as their record fell to 2-5 after their fourth straight loss.
