It was a 74-63 win for the New York Liberty (4-0) after taking on the Seattle Storm (1-3) in their second home game of the regular season Monday evening in Brooklyn.

Kayla Thornton and Nyara Sabally were rotated into the game more than Saturday’s game and picked up more playing time. Getting to free thow line, making shots, and defense from players like Briana Stewart and Jonquel Jones, who made blocks and grabbed rebounds, helped take the win.

“I think the Indiana games, for me at least were a little bit more physical,” said Jones about Jonquel Jones about how their last two games against the Indiana Fever compared to the Storm. “If we execute the game plan and we come out the way we want to, we can beat any team in this league.”

Jones finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 2000 rebounds and 250 three-pointers (240 games) with her rebound at 8:48 in the first quarter.

The Liberty were ahead of the Storm by the end of each quarter. They led 27-15 at the end of the first quarter, 36-24 at halftime and were ahead 60-45 at the end of the third quarter. It was no easy match, as the Storm tied the Liberty with nine points in the second quarter and outscored New York 18-14 in the fourth quarter.

Sabrina Ionescu led New York with 20 points and 8 assists. Stewart added 16 points, 11 total rebound, three steals and two blocks. Thornton played 19:56 in the game and added seven points. Sabally played 12:02 and added four total rebounds.

“There’s been no drop off when we make substitutions, which is huge for us,” said Betnijah Laney-Hamilton about playing with other teammates rotating into the game more. “We can’t be out there playing 40 minutes so the fact that we have a bench that we can rely on, that fits right in is really good.”

Laney-Hamilton added 13 points, four assists and two steals.

The Liberty are preparing to host Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Thursday.
