In a game that featured seventeen lead changes and eleven tie ups, there was no doubt the Washington Mystics were vehement to secure their first win of the 2024 campaign. While their valiant effort didn’t go unnoticed, the Mystics’ twelfth game concluded the same as its previous eleven.

Jonquel Jones scored a season-high 29 points, propelling the New York Liberty to survive a back-and-forth affair against the Mystics 93-88, this past Sunday, June 9 at Barclays Center. With the win, the Liberty moved to 11-2 on the season, riding a seven game win streak, and clinched home court for the Commissioner’s Cup title game, going 5-0 for the in-season tournament.

With New York leading by two through three quarters, Washington took a five-point lead with 8:50 left to play behind five consecutive Jade Mellbounre points. From there, the Liberty regained the lead scoring twelve consecutive points, ignited by back-to-back threes from bench players Leonie Fiebich and Kennedy Burke. The Mystics cut the deficit down to a point with 19.1 seconds, but Jones scored her final two points to assure the win for the Liberty.

New York faces the Las Vegas Aces in Sin City on Saturday.
