The New York Liberty advanced to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2002 after a 87-84 game 4 victory on the road against the Connecticut Sun winning the series 3-1 last Sunday.
The Liberty returned home to prepare to face the 2023 WNBA champions the Las Vegas Aces.
“When you have connection, you have commitment and these girls are committed to each other and this program and how we want to play,” said Head Coach Sandy Brondello.
“The fact that the Liberty haven’t been to a Finals since 2002 is wild and to be able to have that and know that we have the entire city behind is something that’s really, really special,” said Breanna Stewart.
The 2023 WNBA MVP led the Liberty with 27 points in Sunday’s game. She had 9 rebounds, two blocks, and 1 assist. Betnjah Laney contributed 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists and Jonquel Jones added 25 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and four blocks.
The first two games of the series will take place in Las Vegas starting Sunday Oct. 8 and return to New York for game 3 Sunday Oct. 15.
The Aces took the No. 1 overall seed after ending the regular season with a 34-6 record. The Liberty won three out of four games played against the Aces in August. It should be a competitive matchup.
“This is the biggest moment of our entire season now,” Stewart said. “We want to make sure we’re at our best.”
