In a Sunday night matchup with the Toronto Raptors, the New York Knicks sought to extend their winning streak to two games. The Knicks came out strong in the first quarter, outscoring the Raptors scoring 27 to 16. New York to a 56-42 halftime lead and then saw Toronto score 34 third quarter points reducing the lead to 2 points to start the final quarter. The Knicks would hang on with a fine performance from their MVP Julius Randle who scored 26 points in the 102-96 win. Raptors Gary Trent, Jr led Toronto with 23 points. The win put them at .500 (27-27) as they fight to remain 6th in the playoff hunt.
The winning streak went to three games Monday night as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers who were without both LeBron James and Antony Davis. New York took a 7-point halftime lead and did something that has been an issue with them all year. They played a solid third quarter. With help from Elfrid Payton (20) and another solid performance by Randle (game high 34-points) The Knicks cruised to a 111- 96 win.
“This team has a belief,” said first year head coach Tom Thibideau. “We can get it done.” Payton has been playing quality minutes and likes the direction the team is going. “We’re all bought in,” he began. We’re all locked in. We all to see the next man do well. Everyone is playing for each other. There’s no personal agendas. One goal.”
