The New York Knicks knew the Boston Celtics would not lay down when they played game 5 at home in front of their sold-out, rabid fans in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final series. A loss would end their year and a win would give them life to a play game 6 back at Madison Square Garden. Boston was without their best player, Jayson Tatum who blew out his right Achilles tendon late in the fourth quarter in game 4. Both teams went back and forth in the first half with the game tied at 59 at the end of the first half. Boston took over in the second half outscoring the Knicks 32-17 in the third quarter and 36-26 in the fourth in the 127- 102 win. Celtics guard Derrick White scorched New York with 34 points and teammate Jaylen Brown chipped in 26. Knicks Josh Hart, after getting after his left eye split open by Celtics center Luke Kornet, led the Knicks with 24 points. Captain Jalen Brunson, after committing an unheard of 5 fouls in the 4th

quarter and fouling out, finished with 22 points. Game 6 took place last Friday night with the Knicks looking to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. Boston was looking to keep their season alive forcing a game 7 back at the TD Bank Arena something the Knicks would want no part of.

The New York Knicks took control from the very beginning in the series clinching 119-81 destruction over the Boston Celtics. After a close first quarter in which the Knicks led by only 6 (26-20) they exploded in the second quarter outscoring Boston 38-17 and 28-20 in the third. At one point the Knicks were up by as many as 27 points. All five Knicks starters scored in double figures with Brunson and Og Anunoby leading the team with 23 points. Mikal Bridges added 22 and Karl-Anthony Towns was a beast on both ends of the floor scoring 21. In Winning by 38 points, it was the Knicks biggest margin of victory in a postseason game.

Said head coach Tom Thibodeau, “it’s a great win. We advance .You look at that, but you also understand you have to get ready for the next series. The Pacers are a terrific team and we’re going to have to be ready.”

The New York Knicks now face the Indiana Pacers, the team that eliminated them last year in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals. New York will be at full strength unlike last year when injuries took a toll on their team. The Pacers took out the #1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers in 5 games after the Cavs won 64 regular season games.

The New York Knicks will be looking to get to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 when they lost to the San Antonio Spurs. They have not won the NBA Championship since 1973.

The New York Beacon predicts the New York Knicks will win the series in 6 games.
