The New York Knicks defeated the Detroit Pistons last Sunday at Madison Square Garden, making their record 3-2 for the past five home game stretch.
Defense helped boost the Knicks to a 96-84 victory and moved the team one spot ahead of the Pistons in the Eastern Conference. New York held Detroit to 36 per cent from the field. “I thought that we were pretty connected tonight,” said Knicks Interim Head Coach Mike Miller. “I thought we did a good job. There were a few possessions where we got off and away from it, but then we went right back to it.”

It was a come back game after a 126 -103 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder the previous Friday night. “I think the one thing we talked about was just if our offense isn’t going we can’t let the other side fall or slip,” said Miller about takeaways from Friday’s game. “I think that was a big piece of it today.”
Bobby Portis, who has played very game this year said, “we got back in the gym yesterday and had one of our best practices of the year and I think it carried over to tonight.” Portis didn’t feel the team gave their all in the loss to the Thunder and his goal is to play in all 82 games. “Just believing in myself and also just taking care of my body,” he said about keeping up his energy up during the season.
Knicks Julius Randle led the team with 22 points and 12 rebounds for the game. “We’ve got some good wins, some quality wins,” Randle said about the 5-game home stint. “I feel like we can learn from the losses as well. We played some veteran teams, some quality teams. Now it’s time to go on the road.”
Knicks next take on the Washington Wizards, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Miami Heat in a 3-day road trip as the Big East tournament takes over Madison Square Garden which began last night.
