Nationwide — Musician and actor Scott Mescudi, known professionally as Kid Cudi, took the stand Thursday morning in the federal trial against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Mescudi testified about his brief relationship with singer Cassie Ventura and detailed two alarming incidents — a break-in at his home and the arson of his Porsche — both of which occurred shortly after Ventura confided in him about alleged abuse by Combs.

NPR reports that wearing blue jeans and a leather jacket, Mescudi recounted how he and Ventura grew close while working on music together in 2010. Although Combs had initially asked him to collaborate with Ventura, Mescudi said their friendship soon turned romantic. By late 2011, Ventura told him that she and Combs had broken up and alleged that Combs had been physically abusive.

According to Mescudi, in December 2011, Ventura called him “scared,” claiming Combs had learned about their relationship and might be on his way to Mescudi’s house. She asked to be picked up, and Mescudi brought her to a hotel. While there, he received a call from Capricorn Clark — a Combs employee and Ventura’s friend — who claimed Combs had forced her into a car and was now inside Mescudi’s home. When Mescudi rushed back to the house, it was empty, but he noticed unwrapped gifts moved to his counter and found his dog locked in the bathroom. He filed a police report that night.

Mescudi said he ended the relationship shortly after the holidays, fearing for his safety. In January 2012, his dog sitter called to report that his Porsche had caught fire in the driveway. At the scene, Mescudi discovered a burnt molotov cocktail near the vehicle. Prosecutors showed images of the damage, including a hole in the car’s roof and charred leather seats. Although DNA was collected from the scene, no one was ever charged in connection with the incident.

During testimony, Mescudi said he believed Combs was involved, stating, “After the fire, I was like, ‘This is getting out of hand.’” He later met with Combs at SoHo House in Los Angeles. Mescudi recalled that when he entered the room, Combs stood there “like a Marvel supervillain” with his hands behind his back. Ventura joined the meeting, and although tensions were high, Mescudi said Combs remained calm and the conversation was civil.
