Like The Weather Judge Is Heating Up

Look out, the Yankees and captain Aaron Judge have been on a roll! New York claimed the first place spot in the Al East division this past week from the Orioles, sweeping the Twins and White Sox in consecutive series. Over those 2 series, Yankee pitching held their opponents to 2 runs or fewer in all 6 games – a remarkable feat, especially considering the rotation is still without Gerrit Cole. Luis Gil broke the Yankee rookie record for most strikeouts in a game with 14, and all Yankee starters have ERA’s under 3.60.

Fueling this tear has been none other than the captain, who has put the worst slump of his career far behind him. Judge is currently on an 8 game hit streak and posting a .436 average since May 3rd. He has 7 homers this month, to go along with 10 doubles and 16 walks, and has raised his OPS by a whopping 31%. But most importantly, Judge has been clutch, producing timely hits when the game is close, making him more than deserving of Player of the Week.

After their close loss to the Mariners this past Monday night, New York has a 2-game division lead. Even though there is a lot of baseball left, they are putting themselves in the position to win the American League. Something they haven’t done since 2009.
