It would have been very understandable if the New York Football Giants to go on the road against the New Orleans Saints and see their losing streak reach 4 games. The Saints were playing their first game of the year in front of their home fans because of hurricane Ida. Instead, led by quarterback Daniel Jones, the G-Men squeezed out a 27-21 overtime victory. Jones completed 28 of 40 passes or 402 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Running back Saquan Barkley rushed for 52 yards and the game winning touchdown.
Neither team scored in the first quarter with the game tied at 7 when the clock hit zero at halftime. The Saints took a 14-7 lead after backup quarterback Taysom Hill ran it in rom 8 yards out. New York countered with a Graham Gano 23-yard field goal cutting the lead to 14-10. Hill struck again with another 8-yard scamper extending the lead to 21-10. Jones rallied the team when he hooked up with Barkley on a 54-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion was completed narrowing the lead to 21-18. The defense clamped down forcing a Saints punt. Jones then guided them on a 11 play, 59-yard drive with Gano hitting a 48-yard game tying field goal. Big Blue did not give New Orleans a chance in overtime as they marched down 80 yards in 9 plays as Barkley rumbled in from 6-yards out giving them their first win of 2021.
The New York Giants could easily have a record of 3-1 if not for the debacle in Washington and losing at home against Atlanta. They travel to Dallas (3-1) Sunday against a team that is playing well with the return of quarterback Dak Prescott.
