Sunday night was another preseason victory for the New York Giants as they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals with a 25-22 win in the Meadowlands.

After the first half ended with the Bengals ahead 9-7, the Giants fought back and outscored Cincinnati in the second half for the victory.

Daniel Jones started the game at quarterback, but was later replaced by Tyrod Taylor and then Davis Webb at the position. “Thought the quarterbacks played well, had good rhythm in the game, knew where to go with the football, completed a lot of passes,” said Giants first year head coach Brian Daboll.

Jones completed 14 of 16 passes for 116 yds and threw one interception. Taylor completed 7 of 11 passes for 37 yds and Webb completed 22 of 27 passes for 204 yds and threw two touchdown passes. Jones said it was fun playing when asked if he was excited about taking on the Super Bowl LVI contenders. “Obviously a lot of their starters weren’t playing tonight,” he said. “They’re a good team and it’s always fun to get out at home and play a game at home.”

The Giants weren’t on the scoreboard until the second quarter after a touchdown by running back Jashaun Corbin. The Bengals led 9-7 at halftime after three field goals by Evan McPherson and scored a touchdown in the third quarter. The Giants were not on the scoreboard again until the fourth quarter with a 31-yd field goal by Giants Jamie Gillan who substituted for Gano and brought the score to 16-10. They followed it up with a touchdown pass from Webb to wide receiver Alex Bachman. Webb added two more points as he rushed in for the two-point conversion. Webb passed to Bachman again in the last minute of the fourth quarter for the final touchdown of the game to win.

“All this guy’s done is the right thing since he’s been here,” Daboll said about Bachman. “He’s showed up in the spring and worked as hard as he possibly could and got better each day.”

“Got off to a slow start scoring,” Daboll said about his analysis of the game. “Defense we did a great job in short fields in the first half.“

Gano and staring defensive linebacker rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux (Giants 5th round draft pick) were injured in the first half of the game. Gano was ruled out with concussion after halftime and the Giants tweeted Monday that Thibodeaux sprained his MCL. Linebacker Darrian Beavers tore his ACL and is out for the year. After undergoing an MRI Monday afternoon, the team announced that Thibodeaux would be out for the next 3-4 weeks.

Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen completed 14 of 20 attempted passes for 105 yds. Jake Browning threw 10 of 16 for 89 yds and Drew Plitt threw 1 of 2 for 17yds. Joe Burrow sat out during the game recovering from an appendectomy.
The Giants take on the New York Jets Sunday in their final preseason game Sunday afternoon.
