Miami Gardens, Fla. – You have been a NFL quarterback since 2013 and for the most of your career, it has been mainly as a backup. When you did get a chance to start, your record was not impressive. 6 wins, 21 losses and you haven’t won a start since 2017. Never the less, because of a strained neck, Mike Glennon was pressed into action as Daniel Jones was ruled inactive. The New York Football Giants (4-7) flew south to face the Miami Dolphins (5-7) who were looking to keep pace in their division. By the end of the day, Glennon showed why he hasn’t had much success when he is under center.
On an absolutely gorgeous Sunday afternoon, with a fair amount of Big Blue fans in attendance, Glennon was looking to do something Jones hadn’t been able to do over the last two games (10 and 13 points) get into the end zone more than once. It would not happen as for the third straight week and second week under new offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, the offense could only muster 3 Graham Gano field goals of 39, 34 and 51 yards in the 20-9 loss.

Meanwhile, second year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa saw his record improve to 2-0 against the New York teams as Miami beat the Jets 2 weeks ago 24-17 at MetLife Stadium. The Giants and Miami struggled early as no points were put on the board in the first quarter. Glennon got them their only lead (3-0) of the day guiding the team 16 yards, 7 plays and then watched Tua take his team down 47 yards in 11 plays tying the game at 3 after a Jason Sanders 47-yard field goal.
New York gave the Fish the ball back after 6 plays and 14 plays, 89 yards later, Tag ( 30-41, 244 yards, 2 td’s, no int’s)
finds wide receiver Mack Hollins for the 5-yard touchdown reception. Miami used the last 3:52 of the second quarter to go up 10-3. Said Tua after the team’s fifth straight win, “I’m glad we won, but l think there’s a lot of things we left on the field.”
The Giants punted 4 times in the second half as Gano missed a 56-yard field goal that would have reduced the lead to 20-12. Even if he did make it, they would have attempted an on-side kick with less than .14 seconds left in the game needing a Hail Mary touchdown plus the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
Pouring salt on the wound, the Giants announced after the game that Glennon (23-44, 187 yards, no td’s 1 int) suffered a concussion. He was sacked 3 times. Team doctors will monitor his progress during the week and determine if he is well enough to play when the team travels to Los Angeles to face the Chargers. Jones status is uncertain as well.
Giants Second year head coach Joe Judge said, “we got to do a better job of taking advantage of all opportunities. We have to understand the margin for error in this league is so small.”
Miami has a bye week before hosting the New York Jets who lost at home to the Philadelphia Eagles 33-18.
