It had to come to the end at some point. The New York Giants were riding a 4-game winning streak and took their 6-1 record across country to face the Seattle Seahawks and ex-quarterback Geno Smith. After tying the game at 13 in the fourth quarter after a Graham Gano 45-yard field goal Big Blue found themselves in a familiar position. Smith would connect with wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who earlier in the game dropped sure touchdown. Tyler held on for the 33-yard touchdown pass and a 20-13 lead. For the fourth straight game, New York trailed in the final quarter, having won the previous three. It would happen Sunday in the 27-13 loss in front of a raucous, rabid Seattle fan base.

The Seahawks focused their defense on Giants running back Saquan Barkley making sure he didn’t have a big game. It worked as Barkley finished his day with 53 yards on 20 carries and 1 touchdown. Out of the backfield, Saquan only managed 3 catches for 9 yards. Quarterback Daniel Jones completed 17 passes in 31 attempts for 176 yard and no touchdowns. Smith finished his day throwing for 212 yards on 23 of 34 attempts and 2 touchdowns. The Giants special teams contributed to the loss as punt returner Ritchie James fumbles twice. Seattle took advantage of the last fumble as Hawks running back ran it in from 16 yards out ending the Giants winning streak.

Said first year head coach Brian Daboll, “they did a better job than we did.” Daboll acknowledged how important protecting the ball is. “Taking care of the ball is one of our main goals and obviously we didn’t do it. Turn the ball over on your side of the ball on your side of the field, it’s tough. So we have to fix that,” he concluded. Jones was disappointed in his play saying, “I’ve got to make a few more plays.” Barkley added, we’ve got to do a better job, make more plays. It starts with me. I have to do a better job in the run game, getting it going earlier and sustaining it.”

So, the New York Giants go into their bye week with a 6-2 record to the surprise of their fans and the NFL. They will host the Houston Texan Sunday, November 13th at 1pm looking to get back on the winning track.
