Miami Gardens, Florida – The New York Football Giants chances of going to the playoffs for the second year in a row will not happen after they lost to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. It dropped their record to 1 and 4.
The much maligned New York Football Giants offensive line took a rightful beating from fans and the media after last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked 10 times and threw a costly interception that was returned 97 yards for the pick six.
The Giants (1-3) traveled to Miami (3-1) to take on a Dolphins team who were coming off their first loss of the season giving up 48 points to the Buffalo Bills.
For the first time this year, the Giants defense did something they had not do in their first 3 games coming up with 2 interceptions and 1 fumble. Yet, it wasn’t enough as allowed Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to throw for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (14-20, 119 yards) was sacked 6 times and had to leave the game in the 4th quarter with a neck injury. For the third straight game the Giants were without running back Saquon Barkley.
Said Giants head coach Brian Daboll of the beating Jones took again, “we’ve gotta find a wat to protect him better.
The highlight of the Giants defense came when Jason Pinnock returned a Tua interception 102 yards for a touchdown that got the Giants to cut the lead to 14-0 right before halftime. 3 plays later to start the 3rd quarter, Tyreek Hill took a pass for Tagovailoa and scampered 75 yards. Game, set, match.
The status of Jones has not been determined as they travel to Buffalo Sunday night. If he can’t go, backup Tyrol Taylor (9-12, 86 yards) will start. Barkley could miss another game.
The New York Giants re-signed both Jones and Barkley in the off season. Right now, both players have not shown a positive return on the investment costing the team at a shot to go to the playoffs for the second straight year.
