Ed Reed, the NFL Hall of Famer known for his stellar career with the Baltimore Ravens, has taken on a new challenge: offensive coordinator for Chamblee High School in Georgia. His appointment, which the school announced on social media, comes as the team seeks to rebuild after a difficult 2024 season.

Reed’s decision to join Chamblee High School carries a personal connection. His son, Ed Reed III, is a senior wide receiver and defensive back on the team. The former safety expressed excitement about the opportunity, saying it was a chance he couldn’t pass up despite other coaching offers at higher levels of football. “I’m thrilled to help the Chamblee community and teach this game to the football team,” Reed said in a written statement.

The addition of Reed strengthens a coaching staff that already includes another NFL great, Jamal Lewis, who joined Chamblee High as the director of college recruiting in 2024. Lewis, whose son Jazz is a freshman receiver on the team, spoke to The Atlanta Voice about the need for an experienced offensive coordinator. “We needed someone like Ed Reed to bring our players together and distribute the ball effectively,” Lewis said.

Reed’s hiring follows a turbulent coaching experience at Bethune-Cookman University, an HBCU in Florida, where he was hired as head coach in 2023. Before officially taking over the program, Reed said he was forced out by the administration, leading him to publicly share his frustrations on social media. Despite the setback, Reed’s return to coaching at Chamblee represents a fresh start in a familiar role—coaching his son’s team.

Chamblee High’s football program has struggled recently, finishing the 2024 season with a 2-9 record. With two NFL legends now on the staff, the school hopes to turn its fortunes around. Reed’s commitment to family and community, combined with his extensive football expertise, may prove to be a game-changer for the Bulldogs.
