The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs on both sides of the ball in Super Bowl LIX  to win 40-22 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Philadelphia’s defense overpowered Kansas City’s lineman getting to quarterback Patrick Mahomes for six sacks. The Eagles defensive pressure resulted in a scoreless first half for the Chiefs and set the table for the offense, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, to soar pass to victory.

“All the glory to God,” said Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni about his thoughts after winning. “He gives us the talents to be in these situations and blessed our team with talents, (and) blessed myself with the talent to be able to coach football.”

It was a team effort with offense and defense performing excellently to achieve the 40 points, but Hurts took charge of the flock finding diversity on the field. He completed 17 of 22 passing for 221 yards,  rushed for one touchdown, and threw  touchdown passes to wide receivers Devonta Smith and  A. J. Brown. An interception by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun led to Brown’s touchdown.

“It was cool,” he said. “My teammates were telling me I should’ve gotten up and ran after it, but I think I made the smart choice.”

Cornerback Cooper Dejean scored a touchdown for the defense after an making an interception, while kicker Jake Elliott did the rest with successful field goals and kicks for extra points.

Philadelphia received first, but was unable to score and Braden Mann punted for 53 yards. The Eagles scored on their next possession. Hurts passed to Jahan Dotson, but the touchdown was reversed after review. The Eagles, however were close enough for Hurts to run for it. Philly led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and 24-0 at half time.

“There was a lot of energy,” said Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill about their locker room at half time. “We knew we had to come out and execute. The Eagles just out-executed us today.”

The Chiefs scored after halftime. Mahomes threw three touchdowns in the second half of the game. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 257 yards. However, the Eagles already had the upper hand as they took revenge from their 2023 Super Bowl loss to Mahomes and the Chefs.

“Those two losses will motivate me to be even better the rest of my career,” Mahomes said following the game.

“I’m proud of our guys, for the battle, for the fight they put in throughout the year,” said Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid.

Hurts credited his teammates for their success. “You don’t do great things without the guys around you,” he said. “The effort, the work, always leaning on that.”
