Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets watched Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics drop 50+ against them in a road loss. This past Sunday afternoon, Durant decided to do it himself, scoring 53 points against the New York Knicks, leading Brooklyn to a 110-107 win.

After the game, Durant talked about why he came out so aggressively on the offensive end. “I felt like we were shorthanded in the scoring department missing Ky (Kyrie Irving), missing Seth (Curry), missing LaMarcus (Aldridge),” Durant explained after the game. “I’m at a point in my career where I’m like ‘All right, how can I impact everybody out here? How can I make the other coaches think about their game plan?’ So, I feel like I up the level of everybody out there on the floor, and that’s a good feeling to have.”

Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash marveled at Durant. “Kevin was unbelievable, obviously,” Nash said. “Carried us. Made a lot of big plays. Rebounds, assists, the whole deal.”

Irving was courtside two day in a row first watching the ACC tournament and then Durant’s performance but is still not able to play because of the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate. Irving went into the team locker-room at halftime and the team was fined $50,000 for violating the NBA policy.

Meanwhile, there is still no concrete timetable for the season debut of newly acquired Ben Simmons.
