The Trump administration is proposing a “domestic gag rule” that would create strict limitations on how clinics that receive government health care under the Title X planning program can give information about abortions. This would make it much more difficult for some patients to get doctor references for safe and legal abortions.
Under this proposed rule, patients would be denied necessary services even aside from abortion information, including contraception and preventative care. This is the newest barrier in the fight for maintaining women’s health care, as it seems everyday there is a new proposal for limiting it. Limiting the dialogue and information passed between doctors and patients is extremely dangerous, and this specific rule exclusively targets women, and makes it almost impossible for the clinics affected to operate effectively.
