The Juan Soto-less Yankees lost just their 3rd series of the season to the World Series-favored Dodgers this past weekend. In game 1, both starting pitchers were fantastic, allowing a combined 4 hits through the first 5 innings. Each team was scoreless until the top of the 11th, when Teoscar Hernandez hit a 2-run double to give L.A. the lead. New York rallied back, with an RBI-single from Aaron Judge, but ultimately fell short, losing 2-1.
This marked the first time since April 29th that the Yankees scored fewer than 2 runs in a for game.
In game 2, over 5,000 Dodger fans from the group Pantone 294 overtook Yankee Stadium. In total, the number of L.A. fans in Yankee Stadium amounted to the most since 1957, when the Dodgers played in Brooklyn. At one point, a single Yankees fan could be heard yelling, “Go back to LA”, to which a section of Dodger fans shouted back in unison, “We’re from Brooklyn!” The former New York team battered the Yanks, scoring a combined 7 runs in the 8th and 9th innings, to win 11-3. Both Hernandez and Judge hit a pair of home runs.
In game 3, a trio of Yankee home runs powered New York to victory, behind another quality start for Luis Gil. The 26-year-old hurler is having one of the best rookie seasons in Yankee history, putting up Cy Young numbers as the All-Star Game approaches. Judge hit his 24th homer (MLB best) of the season and is currently on pace to finish with 57 for the year, as New York narrowly avoided the sweep.
Anthony Volpe continued to make spectacular plays in the infield throughout the series, despite going 2 for 14 at the plate.
New York went on the road Monday night taking game 1 of the series against the Kansas City Royals 4-2.
