After Touchdown Mayfield Mocks Giants Fans

The New York Giants continued to embarrass themselves last Sunday afternoon with a 30-7 drubbing at home against the 5-6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Giants fall to 2-9 on the season. The game took place a few days after the Giants released their starting quarterback of the last six seasons, Daniel Jones. Many players used that as an excuse to not show up and put forth the worst effort in the NFL in Week 12, which had fans walking out on the team well before the game ended. “Obviously it ain’t the quarterback,” Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers said after the game. “It was the same outcome when we had DJ at quarterback. Take a look, it ain’t the quarterback.” Jones complied a 24-44-1 record as Giants quarterback, and a 2-8 record this season. So the Giants were plenty bad with Jones and not much different with DeVito.

The problem is all the quarterbacks on the roster are subpar. Second-year quarterback Tommy Devito made the start for the Giants against Tampa Bay and he completed 21 of 31 passes for 189 yards and no touchdowns and was sacked 4 times. He ran for another 32 yards on seven carries. Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield finished his day completing 24-30 passes for 294 yards and ran for 1 touchdown. Mayfield mocked DeVito and the Giants by imitating with hand gestures after the score. Mayfield said afterwards, “It was a tribute. A tribute to Tommy. Most of the time, I don’t know what I’m going to do so. New York fans love Tommy here, so give ’em something they like.”

The Giants will play on Thanksgiving against the Dallas Cowboys (4-7) who broke their five-game losing streak when they held off the Washington Commanders (7-5) in their 34-26 win.
