Even when the New York Football Giants win a game, they still end up losing. When Big Blue went to the nation’s capital to face division rival Washington Commanders, they had a 2-8 record. If the season ended at that point, they would in the position to draft the number 2 college player. More than likely one of the top quarterback prospects coming out. Well, those plans took a hit as undrafted quarterback, Tommy DeVito weathered 9 sacks as he threw 3 touchdown passes (two to running back Saquon Barkley) in the 31-19 win. In his second start, DeVito did something no other Giants quarterback had done. He threw 5 touchdowns in his first two starts. Said Barkley after, “he’s a tough dude from Jersey.” Despite being on his back for most of the first half, DeVito finished completing 18-26, 246 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions.
The defense was stellar as they forced 6 turnovers as Commanders quarterback Sam Howell was running for his life the entire game. Led by linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Giants came up with 3 interceptions and forced 3 fumbles. “We needed it,” said Thibodeaux.
The Giants play their next two games at MetLife Stadium first the New England Patriots and then the Green Bay Packers.
