The Golden State Warriors found their rhythm in the second half of their matchup against the New York Knicks, as they won 114-102 at Madison Square Garden Tuesday Night.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 28 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and two steals. Curry, with the help of new member Jimmy Butler, steered the Warriors into 6th place in the NBA Western Conference with the win.

“We thought we played a pretty good first half,” said Draymond Green. “We didn’t make shots, but yet we also felt like we could get the ball moving a little more, get the ball to Jimmy [Butler] more and let him create. We started doing that in the second half and the dominos fell in place.”

Green had eight points, eight assists and two steals in the game, and led Golden State with nine total rebounds. The Warriors have 9 of 11 games since Butler’s debut against the Bulls. He had 19 points, four rebounds, four assists in the game Tuesday. Brandin Podziemski also contributed 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

“I think it was our defense, honestly,” Podziemski said about how the Warriors improved in the second half of the game. “We got stops and we were able to get each bucket in transition.”

The Warriors were outscored by the Knicks 26-25 in the first quarter and 29-22 in the second quarter. They trailed 55-47 at halftime, however came to life in the third quarter with faster play. Curry gave the team energy, scoring 14 points in the quarter, his most in the game.

One of his 3-pointers in the third quarter pushed the Warriors ahead of the Knicks 64-62. “That was after I was over there by Spike (Lee), so I had some good juju going,” Curry said.

Butler also scored his most points (nine) in the third quarter. The Warriors led 82-81 at the end of the quarter and did not lose their lead in the fourth quarter.

“The ball finally started going in,” Warriors Coach Steve Kerr said about the biggest difference between the first half and the second half of the game. “I think we were 5-for-23 from three in the first half. We had plenty of good looks.”

The Warriors next travel across the East River to take on the Brooklyn Nets Thursday night at the Barclays Center.
